I am thinking that for what I would like to do either the Arma 2 SDK or the Xray SDK seem to be the best bet for creating something that is functional and relevant...
I like the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. series and I think that the type of survival fps game-play that is unique to the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. games Misery mod adds pathology to the main character that makes him need to eat and sleep as well as heal damage articulately instead of just looking for ammo and health packs and armor as some of the more generic old school games have you do.
I played more table top games in the era of gaming that made FPS games really big in America the only real ones that were any good were Doom, Quake, Half Life and then later the Call of Duty game, I stopped tabletop gaming and got into music and drugs and then dropped out because of mental and physical health issues and the difference in games for PC and console is maturity and respect of the mental capacity of the person buying and playing the games.
Online Role-playing games state that they are complex and also more rewarding because there is investment in creating a character that is unique to you and also because there is no set storyline you also are not limited to the one set of levels that most console games give you as part of the games progressive storyline, the downside is that most are just yuppy larvae caste systems that allow people to rape the new people to the game and or also create social orders that make playing the game as a beginner a physical hell made of time and space that repulses you to return to the real world and walk in the park or listen to music and do drugs and drop out again...
I like the table top games because there was the physical representation in the figurines made of pewter and painted there was a suggestive rule book at the core of the world so that even if you did not want to go along with the stock adventures you could create your own and use the rules and world setting as a paradigm of function for what ever you were doing as a role-player DMing or a Role-player participating in a "Run".
Science-fiction/Fantasy in a near future setting that some people call Cyberpunk has always been my favorite as a base concept and not an outlook on life or a consumer identity.
